In my first Let’s Play, I’m looking at Smosh Game’s Spider’s on Our Faces! that takes us through Don’t Let Go on the Oculus Rift.
If you haven’t heard, Facebook acquired Oculus Rift for a cool $2 billion, and there has been much speculation about what the final product will be. There’s been rumors and delays but at least we still get some test/beta games to play around with.
In this week’s Gametime, Ian Hecox and Anthony Padilla strap on the virtual reality gear and play a game where you need to keep your virtual hands on a keyboard while being bombarded by virtual (and sometimes real) creatures.
The episode starts off with Ian trying to figure out what he needs to do. After some initial banter, he learns that he must keep touching the ‘space bar’ on the keyboard in front of him.
I have tried the Oculus Rift and I gotta say that it can really take getting used to. Ian was having the same adjustment period I worked through, as well.
The game is set in an office and we begin with a flying bug attack that unnerves both guys. They persevere and and encounter a Raptor from the Jurassic Park days, which turns out to be less menacing them the Steven Spielberg flick.
Out of the blue, knives drop down around their virtual hands and the guys react accordingly.
Next up is a creepy crawly spider which clears hits a note and Ian can hear the spider munching inside his ear. Not fun!!
Then, spinning knives and a floating match ensure more suspense, especially when a knife drops slowly.
And, just when the college buddies think it’s over, there is one last attack!
They joke afterwards how we’ll all look back two years from now and laugh about how bad the platform is in 2015. I just can’t wait for Oculus Rift to hit the stores for my own selfish wants!
